we stand fully behind the report we published, signed by our reporter ebru çelik, entitled ‘scandal at kılıçdaroğlu’s badge ceremony: hundreds of extra actors were paid to attend the ceremony’. we hereby announce to the public that we will take legal action against the slander directed at birgün. those sitting in positions they do not deserve cannot speak ill of the values nurtured through hard work, labour and self-sacrifice.
We stand fully behind the article titled “Scandal at Kılıçdaroğlu’s badge ceremony: Hundreds of extras were transported to the event for money”, published under the byline of our reporter Ebru Çelik. Our reporter’s article, based on participant observation, is grounded in concrete facts and is entirely true.
The statements made against our newspaper by the CHP leadership—installed following the ‘absolute nullity’ ruling issued on appeal—are unacceptable. BirGün is one of the press’s most reputable institutions and has never told the public a lie. The sole reason it has managed to remain independent for 22 years as an ownerless newspaper is the unshakeable trust it has built.
We hereby announce to the public that we will take legal action regarding the slanderous allegations directed at BirGün. Those sitting in positions they do not deserve cannot speak ill of the values that have been nurtured through hard work, effort and self-sacrifice.
As we have done for years, we will continue to stand firm in the face of these reckless attacks and, in fulfilment of our responsibility, we will not cease to report the truth for the sake of Turkey’s brighter future.
Note: Our reporter Ebru Çelik did not accept the 950 TL distributed to extras at the CHP event. BirGün staff do not covet what is not rightfully theirs.
